This Wiki serves the Different Views website, which is for all different views of life and the world. It is primarily for unusual or Unorthodox Views, including the Supernatural, but will also discuss some views of conventional science. There are pages designed to give skeptical scientists some reasons for accepting the possibility of what is discussed here.
The site will serve
- believers in traditional and exotic Paranormal Ideas
- believers in ideas derived from Orthodox Science
- believers in various Religious Views
- Explorers, Searching for the Truth, with few beliefs
All such people are invited to contribute to this Wiki. See the help page to find out how to edit pages or add your own new pages.
In general people who hold these various beliefs do not agree with one another and may be offended that they are included here. In particular, people who believe in Faster-than-light space travel or Flying Saucers may accept almost all other orthodox scientific views and may not like having their views discussed on a site which also includes discussions of Magic, Ghosts, Demons, Astrology and Divination. Religious people may object to any discussion of those topics but from an entirely different point of view.
Various pages on the website show how different opinions may represent the same underlying truth from different points of view, and why clarity of vision is more important than point of view. Corresponding pages on this Wiki will do the same, but may be edited by users. It is hoped that such edits will improve the pages. If not, other people may change or correct what had been done. Vandalism will result in pages being rolled back to an earlier state, restoring the text to what it was. The Different Views site exists to provide sympathetic presentations of may different views, from the most supernatural to the most conventionally scientific, but with more emphasis on the unorthodox and paranormal views. For example there will be much discussion of Astrology, very little of Astronomy. There are also forums where each may be discussed from any point of view including harshly critical ones. It will also provide a way we can work together to combine sympathic and critical views into a common understanding of our beliefs, whether we agree with each other or not.
It is not fair to say that you disbelieve in anything until you understand exactly what it is you don't believe in. It is unwise to adopt some belief without understanding what its proponents claim. Please read what is written here and participate in discussions. Help us understand what points of view do exist, then either adopt and defend one or define you own.
Everything on this site is controversial. Controversy is good, as long as we can be more or less civilized about it. Disagree with whatever you want, and say why you disagree. You can attack and defend whatever views you want, but please do not just ridicule other people. It may be only seen as true from some points of view, but it does seem better to treat others as you would like to be treated yourself.
Please participate in our discussion groups and read or comment on the site's blog. Please join our Social Network of people interested in any of these Different Views.
You are encouraged to contribute to this Wiki, which permits users to edit most pages, working together to produce something of value for all people interest in unorthodox worldviews.
Please see the main Social Technology page. It is aimed at people with a more ordinary world view, but offers serious solutions to the world's problems.
Different Views is related to Social Technology in a rather complicated way which is difficult to explain. Briefly the effects of social technology on society depend on various truths which we can not be sure of but can only see from our different views. Also, methods from social technology can be used to clarify different views and see if they are indeed different views of the same underlying truth.
For example the Delphi Method of combining the views of experts to find something closer to the truth or a better prediction than any individual expert could produce might be utterly defeated if the Astrological Relationships between the experts are incompatible. But putting together teams of experts according to their astrological compatibilies might make the Delphi Method very effective. Also, what well-formed and effective Delphi teams decide upon might throw great light on the questions raised on this different views site.
